POTTY TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL!

Poodles are very intellegent and easy to train.  Infact it is more of the puppy training you and not you training your puppy.  Please not that consistancey is the KEY no matter what method of train you use.
INSIDE POTTY TRAINING
I recomend that puppies be trained to a wee-wee pad.  This is a sented pad that attracts the puppys to it.  It has an absorbant side and a blue waterproof side.  This is a great tool for training your puppy and speeds up the training process.  These pads can be purchased at almost any store including Walmart, Petsmart, and Pet co.
REMEMBER:  that when training your puppy that they are very young have have a little attention span and an even smaller bladder.  So patience is a virtue!
I recomend that you keep your puppy in a small confined area with a wee-wee pad in one end.  Keep this away from his food and his bed. Puppies don't like to GO where they eat or sleep.
Just letting your puppy have the run of the houes is NOT a good idea and is just asking for trouble!  A house is an awefully big place for a little tiny puppy and he or she will have an aweful time remembering where that wee-wee pad is (remember, little attention span?).  It is fine to take your puppy out and play with him and hold him, infact please do, just don't let him be unsupervised.  For the sake of your puppies saftey and for the sake of your carpet or floors.
As your puppy grows and learns you can gradually move the wee-wee pad closer to the door.  The ulimate goal is to get your puppy to potty outside.  But the wee-wee pad can also be helpful if you live in cold climates with rain or snow and puppy refused to go out in the winter.
OUTSIDE POTTY TRAINING
When training to potty outside, I recomend taking your puppy out every hour.  As the puppy grows and learns you can lengthen the time between trips.  It is also smart to take your pupy out after naps and after meal times.
It is best if you take your puppy consistantely to one spot outside.  The puppy will learn that this is hisor her spot.  Another way to facillitae this is to have one of the males humans (either a husband or a son) pee in a cup and then pour that into the spot that you want your puppy to go.  This may sound gross but it REALLY WORKS!
As your puppy becomes older and you have learned to read his or her signs you will be able to tell when your puppy needs to go out.
